On Sunday, in dozens of countries with harsh climate was celebrated World Snow Day, which meant special events for these countries. To mark this day, in Rasnov was held a ski jumping competition, plus there were other events for children during the same holiday: contests and interactive games.But snow events in Brasov do not end here. Not by far. We are 25 days away from the start of the European Olympic Youth Festival. It will take place from February 17 to 22, in Brasov, Rasnov and Predeal, being coordinated by the Association of European Olympic Committees, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. To organize this festival, the authorities had to arrange trampolines, thing were made by experts from Austria. FOTE is organized every odd year, has two editions – one for summer and one for winter – and addresses athletes between 14-18 years of the 49 countries eruopene.
This first winter edition is organized in Romania, an those who participate will compete in eight sports events: alpine skiing, cross country skiing, biathlon, ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating, ski jumping and snowboarding. And because unfortunately sometimes appear unpredictable situations there were organized and reserve sports bases, located in Azuga (Sorica), Busteni (Kalinderu) and Sinaia (Valea Dorului). Athletes Village is located in Poiana Brasov, which is also the headquarters of the Organizing Committee EYOF Brasov 2013. The Organizing Committee announced that 910 athletes from 45 European countries will participate to this event, out of which 8 Romanians to cross country skiing.
If you want to take part in the opening ceremony, which will take place on the evening of February 17, the Olympic Stadium in the Sports School in Brasov. The closing ceremony of the festival is scheduled for February 22 in Poiana Brasov.
This festival aims to promote Brasov and Romania in Europe in terms of culture and Romanian hospitality, education of children and youth regarding the Olympic values: fairness, tolerance, solidarity, friendship and mutual understanding, motivation to practice sport activities, providing optimal conditions and support Romanian young athletes career, boosting tourism in the area and not least, sports infrastructure enhancement.
